Simulating Solar Communities.

Stage 1: Installation and Interview

We will visit your home for approximately one hour to:

• Explain the study and check you are happy to proceed.
• Install a simple sensor around your electricity meter.
• Interview you about your experiences and routines around energy.

Stage 2: Testing and Exploration

The sensor on your meter will send data to us at UCL. You can log in to our website to see your electricity usage over time. Our website will use your real electricity usage, the weather forecast, and some other data to simulate what it would be like to share solar panels and battery with three of your neighbours. You will use our tool for a month to learn about and manage your routines and activities around energy use.

Stage 3: Evaluation and Design Workshop

We will invite you to a workshop with the other three participants in your group. We will ask you about your experience of using the technology and discuss/design ways to improve it.

​We will give you the amount of money we predict you saved by using the simulated solar system.
